Q
Why is the SentryMDU App NOT available on Google Play (App Store)?
A
The SentryMDU App is NOT available on Google Play. Google Policy
does NOT allow mobile devices to be used in unattended surveillance applications
other than for home or family monitoring (strict guidelines).
The SentryMDU System can function as a Police Body-Cam, Vehicle Dash-Cam,
Wildlife Critter-Cam and more. The advanced features allow for remote monitoring
and GPS Tracking for groups of Users within a Security Domain (ie a Police Department).
Google Policy does not allow Apps to have these features (at least that is what they
told us), therefore, we are not on Google Play. As Enterprise Grade Software you
must download the App directly from our website. It is free to download and use.

Q
What cell phones and tablets have been tested with the Sentry MDU smartphone App?
A
The SentryMDU App is designed to work with Android versions from 4.3 - 9.0.
However, we recommend devices running Android versions 5.1 - 9.0 (see notes below).
When tested on device simulations,
the App is shown to work on about 10,000 different devices with various
combinations of hardware and operating systems. In the unlikely event
your device is not working correctly, you may have one of those devices
where the manufacturer tweaked their software and did not follow the
Android specification exactly.
The following phones and tablets have been tested with the Sentry MDU App.
- Samsung Galaxy S3, SGH-1747 (phone), Android 4.3
- Samsung Galaxy S3, GT-i9300 (phone), Android 4.3
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, SM-T210R (8in Tablet), Android 4.4.2
- Samsung Galaxy S5, SM-T210R (phone), Android 4.1.2
- Samsung Galaxy S6, SM-G920A (phone), Android 5.0.2
- HTC ONE M9, (phone), Android 5.1.1
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, SM-T817A, (10in Tablet), Android 5.1.1
- Samsung Galaxy Express, SM-J320A, (phone), Android 6.0.1
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, SM-T817A, (10in Tablet), Android 6.0.1
- HTC ONE M9, (phone), Android 7.0
- Samsung Galaxy Express, SM-J320A, (phone), Android 7.1
- Samsung Galaxy S6, SM-G920A (phone), Android 7.0
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, SM-T817A, (10in Tablet), Android 7.0
- Samsung Galaxy S9, SM-G960 (phone), Android 8.0
- Samsung Galaxy S9, SM-G960 (phone), Android 9.0
- Atom Unihertz, (phone), Android 9.0
- Samsung View 18.4” Tablet, Android v5.1.1 (see Item 19 below)
- See Item 18 for issues with some low cost devices
Over the past several years, the standard encryption method for mobile devices has changed.
Some older devices, such as the Samsung S3 phone (with Android ver 4.3), do not conform
to the newer encryption standard. Credit Card processing now REQUIRES that mobile devices use the
“newer” encryption standard (TLSv1.2). Older phones will still work for Licensed
Server Applications, but not if you are wanting to use a credit card and pay for subscriptions.
In addition, older generation devices (with Android ver 4.3 and 4.4) will NOT display satellite
imagery because the Cloud based Tile Server delivers tiles over an encrypted connection and these older
devices do not support the newer encryption standard. The phones still work fine when used with
Street Map Tiles. This will allow older devices to be used as remote surveillance cameras (since you do not need
the satellite imagery for those).
We will also mention that older generation devices (with Android ver 4.3 and 4.4) do not implement HTML v5 which
is required to properly display the Subscription Account Management screens. This is why we
recommend mobile devices running Android v5.1 or higher.

Q
Do you have a Sentry MDU smartphone App for Apple iPhones?
A
No, we do NOT provide the Sentry MDU smartphone App for Apple products.
The iOS (Apple Operating System) is not an open source operating system. The
Apple iOS lacks some of the features that are critical to the Sentry MDU App,
therefore we do not use Apple. There may be some point in the future where the
Apple iOS meets our requirements, and if so, we will consider porting our
software to Apple Products, but for now we do not.

Q
What version of MS Windows operating system software does the Sentry MDU Desktop Client run on?
A
The Sentry Desktop Client runs on the Microsoft Windows “Pro” operating system
versions 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. Although it will run on MS Windows XP, XP is no longer supported by
Microsoft, therefore we would NOT recommend to run it on XP.

Q
I read in the Technology Overview that I should use an expensive high performance rack
mount SERVER for the Data Server. Is this really necessary? Will a regular desktop computer work?
A
Yes, a regular Desktop Computer WILL work.
For those organizations that just have a FEW users,
the “data” is NOT critical (you could stand to have a hard drive failure)
and you do not plan to do much video streaming, then a “regular” desktop
computer may work. However, for critical services (Police, Fire, Emergency Mgmt, etc.) where
24/7/365 reliability IS important (and data security is important) we do recommend a commercial grade server.

Q
My windows computer firewall is blocking the Sentry Desktop Client from working properly. What do I do?
A
The Sentry Desktop Client communicates with the Data Server and will need access
through the Windows Firewall. The following “ports” must have access.
Ports 80, 81 and 554. Generally, the first time the Sentry Desktop is blocked
by the Windows Firewall (real-time video display is one example), you will get
a “firewall” error message that says it has blocked an application
and it asks the User if the application should be allowed through the firewall.
Answer “Yes”.

Q
Our computer network has a firewall/router that is blocking the Sentry MDU System. What ports need to be open?
A
The Sentry Desktop Client and Data Server will need access
through the Network Firewall. The following “ports” must have access.
Ports 80, 81, 82, 5002, 2010-2043 UDP, 2012, 8284, 8285, 8990, and 5557. It is also
generally a good idea to allow all ports above 1023 to pass thru.
14.
Q
Can the Sentry MDU Data Server operate BEHIND a NAT'd router IP address?
A
Yes, just make sure to allow the necessary “ports” for the
private IP address.

Q
Does DLT hold training classes in the use of the Sentry MDU software?
A
Yes, DLT does hold training classes on the use of Sentry MDU System software.
Generally, for “new” customers, the training classes are held in
Bartlesville, Oklahoma, USA. We usually follow the “Train-the-Trainer”
concept where a customer would send a few of their Trainers and we would train them
to provide the on-site training for their own workers. Depending on the Course,
training usually takes from 1-3 days.

Q
What is a Private Domain Group? Do I need to set one up?
A
Each user, when registered, will automatically create a Personal Security Domain just for
themselves (and those they invite). The Private Group Domain (Personal
Security Domain) is a feature where a
group of Users can also elect to create a Private
group. An example would be a Real-Estate Office where the workers only want to interact among
themselves (or those they invite). Within this Domain specific access rights and permissions can
be given to specific people (such as a Supervisor or Team Leader).
The SentryMDU Mobile Device User Guide has a detailed discussion on creating
and using Security Domains.

Q
The Live Search feature does not seem to work on my device. What could be the problem?
A
We have tested some low cost android devices and discovered that SOME
do NOT contain a gyroscopic sensor. This sensor is necessary in order
to determine relative position of the device in 3-axis space. Without a
gyroscopic sensor the Live Search feature does not work and
the Tap Control feature will not work since they both use this
sensor. If you are going to purchase a mobile device to use with the
SentryMDU System, make sure it has a full slate of internal sensors.
See the SentryMDU Mobile Device User Guide for full details.

Q
Does the SentryMDU App run on the Samsung View 18.4” Tablet, Android v5.1.1?
A
The SentryMDU App has problems running on the Samsung View Tablet. Although the tablet
is running Android v5.1.1, the hardware/software on the device causes problems.
For example, the tablet does NOT have a rear camera and the front camera is not
detected by the SentryMDU App in the same way other devices are. The large tablet
is also limited in internal sensors. It will display maps, monitor GPS locations,
display limited video from other devices and perform many of the functions just fine.
The Google Play store says the App “is not compatible” with the Tablet.
For testing, we did a MANUAL install and forced it. We would NOT recommend an install
of our App on the Samsung View 18.4” Tablet.

Q
I installed the SentryMDU App. It seems to run for about 20 seconds, then closes. What is going on?
A
If the SentryMDU App installs successfully, but seems to close right after it is launched ... then you may
have App Blocker software on your mobile device. Some of the later generation Android mobile devices
MAY come pre-installed with security software called “App Blockers”. This software is designed to protect
you from fraudsters and hackers, which is a good thing. However, in some cases, the default settings of the
App Blocker will also block any App Software that is not delivered from the Google Play Store repository. See
Section 3.1 of the SentryMDU QuickStart Guide on how to adjust your settings to allow the SentryMDU App to
run on your device.

Q
Do you recommend using the SentryMDU App on the Atom Unihertz “tiny” cell phone?
A
We have tested the Atom Unihertz “tiny” cell phone with our App. Everything works. However, the
Atom Unihertz screen is so small that you cannot really take advantage of the SentryMDU features. If you want
to use the Atom Unihertz as a wearable Body Cam, GPS Tracker or remote surveillance camera because of its small size, then
it will work fine for that. The issue is small screen size. Anyone with big fingers will have difficulty
trying to use the “on screen” keyboard or clicking buttons with such a small screen. Generally, we
would recommend NOT using the Atom Unihertz.

Q
I discovered a Menu Item that is not covered in the User Guide. Is this an “undocumented” feature?
A
If you have discovered a Menu Item that is NOT covered in the User Guide, it can be due to several factors.
- It is an UNDOCUMENTED feature (there are several).
- It is a feature that will be documented in a future release of the User Guide.
- We are doing additional “real-world testing” of the feature and may include it in the manual at a future date.
- We have made a mistake and forgot to include the Menu Item.

Q
Can the SentryMDU App be programmed to access several different Data Servers?
A
Yes, the SentryMDU App may be set up to access several different Data Server instances.
We call these “User Profiles”. Think of it as switching a radio to another
frequency channel. Refer to Section 5.3 of the SentryMDU User Manual for a detailed description
of this feature. This section will describe how to set up 3 different User Profiles that
access 3 different Data Server instances.
The following 3 scenarios are covered:
- You are a Firefighter for the City and your mobile device (cell phone) is configured
to access a SentryMDU Licensed Server that is operated by the City.
- You are also a member of a Volunteer Fire Department that is part of a county-wide Mutual
Aid Group where all volunteer fire departments have access to a SentryMDU Licensed
Server that is operated by the County.
- You have also configured your device for your “personal” family group.
You have created a family “security domain” for your wife and two children
and have subscribed to a “Level 1 Access” subscription.

Q
Can the SentryMDU App be programmed to access BOTH a personal Subscription Account AND a Licensed Data Server Account?
A
Yes, the SentryMDU App may be set up to access BOTH a personal Subscription Account
AND a Licensed Data Server Account on the same device.
We call these “User Profiles”. Think of it as switching a radio to another
frequency channel. See Section 3.7 (Licensed Server) and 3.8 (Subscriptions) for setup
instructions. Then refer to Section 5.3 of the SentryMDU User Manual for a detailed description
that will describe how to set up 3 different User Profiles that access 3 different Data Server instances.
The following 3 scenarios are covered:
- You are a Firefighter for the City and your mobile device (cell phone) is configured
